Axis Orbit

2015 NASONI 163

S/T

Style: 70's / Hard- & Blues-Rock / Garage

Axis/Orbit makes Rock and Roll. Stoner, retro, doomy but unashamedly not completely metal. Like a cavalcade of 60’s-70’s rock stylings from the menace of Sabbath to the spaciness of Floyd’s cosmic tracks, to the heavy prog jam trio art of Cream and Band of Gypsies, with strokes of classic Cali folk rock, vintage grunge and straight up garage rawk. Following up on their critically acclaimed 3 song quick spit of an EP, A/O jumped into a delightfully industrial winter bunker in Bohemia, NY w Chris Angel Mindfreak composer Mickey James at the board to bust out 10 slabs of heavy psych rancor. From the drippy opener ‘Hazy’, this time w/ sitars and percussion filtered through the tapestry to the Iron Man-ish epic ‘Infidel’, the band strives to satisfy without being pigeonholed into trendy moniker handcuffs. Axis Orbit flies above all that. ‘The Owl’ is pensive and moody while around barrels down the highway on a Floyd meets Alice Cooper joyride. Tasty ballad ‘I Can’t Feel A Thing’ leads to the 9 minute combo of ‘Can’t Get High’ into a stellar re-worked version of the psych instrumental roller coaster ‘Riot Canal.’ ‘Forever’ is a sexy punker that pays homage to Detroit rock city in obvious and not so obvious ways and ‘In The Summer’ is the grooviest (if not the only) paean to summertime and psychosis ever put on wax. Axis Orbit lets the jams do the talking on this self-titled debut full length and deftly dekes in and out of styles as they choose, trusting the listener to dig the ride and ride again. Mixed by Mickey and the band and mastered by NaaM producer/Throaat drummer/vocalist and friend of the band Evan Sobel. Original art by animator Vinny Scala (www.vicentascala.com). Proudly released on wax exclusively by seminal rock label Nasoni Records and around the world in digital format in July of 2015.
